The Console Versus PC Gaming Battle

In the world of gaming, some of us like to think that PC gamers rule the roost. Others, however, are die hard console gamers. Some walk the line and play both. So, o they have the staying power? Is one type destined to become obsolete?

First of all, in the world of console gaming, there are three main categories, these days, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Wii gamers. Granted, some play two types and some play all three. Personally, I am a Nintendo fiend, though.

In some ways, that competition actually works in the console gamers’ favor. Since there are three main console games, there are three very distinctive console game sets to choose from. Yet, those sets are ever changing.

For example, I loved Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie on N64. Imagine my dismay when I discovered that the latest Banjo game is only out on Xbox 360! Suddenly, they aren’t Nintendo specific games anymore! So, now, if I want to play my favorite games, I have to buy a 360. Theoretically, once I do that, I will see other 360 games that I like and buy those. I’m probably not alone. That trend will probably cause a lot of you gamers out there to buy more than one system and, as a result, games for more than one system.

So, any old school console gamers are probably going to stay console gamers and, by default, their kids will probably be console gamers, since the games will be in the house. I don’t see console games ever dying. So, are computer games destined to go by the wayside, instead?

Well, I think not, just for sheer convenience. Most of us use our computers on a daily basis. If we have breaks from work or just happen to be online chatting with friends, why not play a game, especially a multiplayer online game? In fact, more and more MMORPG’s are popping up. World of Warcraft, Warhammer and the like are in no danger of dying off.

Aside from that sort of convenience, there’s also the space convenience. If you play computer games, you don’t have to contend with console game systems, lots of game controllers and accessories and tons of game discs and cases everywhere. A lot of computer games don’t even require a disc to run.

Then there’s convenience point three. If you’re already at your computer playing a game you have the world at your fingertips, as far as finding game information goes. You can easily look up game cheats, game walkthroughs, game trailers and more. Of course, if you are playing a console game, you can take time out and go over to your computer and look up the cheat codes, but it takes more time.

Ultimately, there are no winners or losers in the battle between console and PC. I am looking forward to Diablo III coming out for PC, personally, but I’m also looking forward to the day that I can replace the Wii that my ex boyfriend kept, too! There’s no reason we should choose one over the other. All games are a blast!

When the first playstation 3 consoles came out, they were able to play most if not all ps2 and ps1 games. But due to costs, they cut back and the current models on the market can not. The only way to do it is to get it mod which I don’t really want to risk. I’m just wondering if anyone knows if the ps3 slim that’s coming out at the end of the year will be able to play ps2 games again. Thanks!

The PlayStation 3, known as the PS3 is made by Sony and is the third in the PlayStation series. The PS3 was preceded by the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The PS3 was first introduced in November of 2006 to the Unite States market, while Europe, Australia, Africa, New Zealand and the Middle East had to wait until March of 2007 before they were able to buy one in their own country. Thousands of people lined up outside retail stores for hours at a time to get their hands on PS3 on the first day of sales and they sold out very quickly. Unfortunately the PS3 was so sought after that some violence did surround its debut. Often fights broke out when there were too many people in line for a limited number of PS3 consoles.

So what’s so good about the PS3? The PS3 is an advanced video game system that has three unique features that have helped it to succeed in the marketplace. First, the PS3 comes equipped with the ability for online play. The PlayStation Network is a gaming community that allows players to play against one another over the internet. Currently the PlayStation Network has over 14 million user accounts. From sports games to role-playing games, you can easily connect to other players and play head-to-head.

Another popular and unique feature of the PS3 is that it has a built in Blu-Ray disc player. As DVD technology increases, Sony developed the Blu-Ray disc, which is a more advanced version of a DVD. Not only is the PS3 a gaming system, but it can also be integrated into your home theater as a Blu-Ray player, so no need to go out an buy yet another piece of electronic equipment to keep up with the advances that are made.

The last unique feature of the PS3 is the hard drive. You have a choice of purchasing a model with hard drive sizes of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 160GB. Forget small memory cards – The PS3 can store all your game settings onto the hard drive and you can also store pictures, movies and games onto the hard drive as well.

Currently over 16 million PS3′s consoles and 115 million PlayStation 3 games have been sold worldwide since its introduction. The gaming community has been very receptive to the PS3 and it has received many positive reviews from major gaming and electronics websites and publications.

Once you purchase your PS3, purchasing games is the next step. Whether you’re into first-person shooters, sports or fantasy games, you will have no trouble finding a game that you will enjoy. Some of the hottest games for the PS3 include: Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Half-Life 2-The Orange Box, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and of course the wildly popular Guitar Hero.

I purchased new console from digitaltechmart.com they had the lowest price on this item. but now I’m looking for an action/fight game.

Warhawk is the best online game ever made.

It’s online only, but it’s on huge, beautiful maps. It is both a 3rd-person shooter and an air combat game. Kind of like Battlefield but with a lot better strategy and well-balanced weapons and vehicles.

$30 at playstation store.

I wonder if playstation 3 consoles are good, tell me your answer so I can buy or not buy one. Are there any good games on it.

1.Wow, what ever is soooo wrong! I own a PS3, an xbox 360, a WII, a psp, and a DS. Who can beat that? I love all these systems but the PS3 is the best. If you get a newer PS3 model (the new 80 gigabite, and the 160 gigabite: Drakes Fortune Bundle) then you can’t play PS2 games. If you get a 60 gigbaite, 40 gigabite, or older 80 gigabite model, then you are fine. Now, for you what ever, you say (and I quote) "the PS3 jocked off the 360""… heh…haha… HAHAHA! You are SOOOO wrong! The Playstation 2 actually runs on the same hardware as the Playstation 2. This is the truth. The updated graphics, but that’s all. It’s the truth. The PS3 runs on 16 motors, how many does the 360 and PS2 run on? 1. That’s it. 1. It’s a great system, and I love my xbox 360 but the PS3 is sooooo much better, in sooooo many ways. First of all the Playstation 3 has Blu-ray disk capability, which means movies in high definition! It also plays regular DVD’s. The online for the Playsation 3 is FREE too! The xbox’s cost 60 bucks a year, and while this is not a lot, it is 60 buck’s that could be used for better purposes. Also, unless you’r xbox 360 would sit near you’r router (a wireless device located near a computer) then you would have to pay 100 buck’s to get a wireless adaptor (this let’s you go on xbox live, download demo’s, chat with friends and more). The Playstation 3 has a wireless adapter built in! So, in the end with both of those exspences, the PS3 is the same price as the 360, but way better! As for games the PS3 wins again. The PS3 has more exclusives then any other console! This is not a lie! Watch Sony’s E3 conference, or do you’r research! It has the Ratchet and Clank series, Metal Gear Solid 4, Unchated, Resistance, Motorstorm, and sooo much more. These are both great systems but the PS3 is better then the 360, and with the prices of the wireless adaptor and the 60 bucks a year membership then it’s cheaper to go with the PS3 too, and it’s better. Now more people do have 360′s, but over 500 million have PS3, so you’r not alone. Both are good consoles, but only the PS3 is great.

On a final note I will discuss the HUGE problem with the xbox 360, that is the Red Rings of Death. Over one third of xbox 360′s break within the first month of usage. I have had 8 xbox 360′s in the last year! That is rediculus. It costs an additional 150 bucks to repair the console and you have to ship it to Texas which costs like $30. It is rediculus. The PS3 has a margine of only 3% breaks in the first month. Now you may think that this won’t happen to you… you are wrong! So wrong! In total over 60% of xbox 360 owners have experienced harware failure. I really hope you have listened to my argument that the PS3 is better, because when you are one of the 60% of owners who expirience hardware failure, you will realize what could have been. Get the Playstation 3 and you won’t be sorry

2..I got my PS3 last month. I had an xbox 360 but it broke for the 8th time which was really annoying. So I got a PS3. The system is sterdy. Little Big Planet is the best game ever! That along with Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destrction. These are in my top 8 favorite games of all time. This system is amazing for kids-adults. BUY IT! Not to mention it has the funtion to play Blu-Ray which is high def movies. This sytem and the game plus the games I listed are GREAT buys and you will love it. Also dont listen to the xbox 360 fanboys even though the xbox 360 is a great system. THIS IS BETTER!

3.My honest opinion? Okay fine. I own every current system. Now I know you said not to compare it to anything else but I only told you this so you know I can tell you the truth. The Playstation 3 is… The best console on the market. The only downside of this amazingly smooth ride is price but let me break it down for you.

Design- The design is slick it has a touch screen power button so it turns on with a touch. It is very durible! I have dropped it 3 times bringing it to my cousins. It looks and feels right. Not to mention it plays Bu-Ray disks. This is High def movies. Blu-Ray players are $250 at the minimum.

Feel- Out of all consoles the controller feels the best here. It is simply put "Right". It runs on the six axis engine so in some games you can turn the controller to balance. I really like this feel.

Games- The library of games for this system is growing like a majik bean stalk. It has so many exclusives. More then any system already! Many great exclusives include: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Resistance 1 and 2, and Little Big Planet. The titles keep growing and so does the system. Many other third party multiplatform games are also on this system. Like Call of Duty World at War, Madden 09, Prince of Persia, Grand The

Like everything else that changes and has trends, so does technology. In a sense, that makes it no different from fashion, cars or anything else that comes and goes. Yet unlike those things, technology is always evolving. Newer and better all the time, smaller, faster, higher capability and capacity than the last. Here I will list what is predicted to be hot sellers for 2009 in the ever changing world of technology, while everybodyâ??s pocketbooks/wallets are hurting.

This year, it has been predicted to have booming PC sales, and if its anything like last year-laptops will also have a rising sales. With more and more people trying to have their own small businesses during these tough economic times, they will seek out the latest and fastest PCs. They also will seek out all in one printers to help complete their new at home offices and to save space. Weâ??re likely to see prices drop though, as stores will be forced to lower them in order to survive. It will be a good year for the buyer and bad for the stores.

With the DTV switch coming up and analog going out, we can expect to see Digital TVs prices dropping as well. Like all technology, once it comes main stream, prices drop. Also cable companyâ??s may lose even more customers as more stations and sub-stations will be popping up.

Smart phones and PDAâ??s may flop, with issues from Blackberry and Iphones people may get turned off. Also with their high prices for services donâ??t help the wallet.

Mp3 players becoming more mainstream, Ipods might lose the lead. With their high prices and issues known with the newer models, might help lesser known brands gain in sales.

Video Game consoles will likely do well, Xbox and Playstation both have lowered their prices and Wiis are selling very well. Also two new consoles are coming out this year from lesser known GP2X and Zeebo.

Microsoftâ??s Windows new OS, Windows 7 is in BETA stage and might come out as soon as this year.

Open source software and freeware will be more in demand as people donâ??t have the money to splurge on pricey software.

Social Networks will still be popping up with no end in sight, the companies who run them can make good money on it.

Blogging and citizen journalism will be growing and making a larger splash in the media world. Perhaps even hurting TV, newspaper and radio in news.

And thatâ??s the prediction for the trends of technology this year 2009. Nobody knows for sure what this year will hold, but we sure can hope for the best.

I am a casual gamer and haven’t bought a gaming console since the PS1 about 15 years ago and I really want to buy a PS3 because of the cool graphics, the Blu-Ray and sound capabilities. and pretty much everything else it does. Now I know much more about computers than video games, and I have read that the PS3 ( Slim ) is available in several hard drive configurations ( I believe 360 GB is the largest size available ), but I have seen on gaming forums and websites that there are people who modiify or customize their PS3 with the hard drive of their choosing and do all kinds of other neat things with it. So if I can modify my PS3 to my specifications, than that pretty much negates the fact that I should spend $350 on the most expensive one, right? Also, I have read that the PS3, albeit only the older ones, have somthing called an Emotion Engine that plays the back catalogue of PS2 and PS1 games. Is that available on the new PS3 Slim and if it is not how can I get one? Thank You for viewing my question and I appreciate any useful feedback. I

Yeah it’s true that you can replace the hard drive that comes with the PS3. The Slims don’t have PS1/2 playback, so if you did want that you would need to buy the "fat" one. I don’t know if you have a Fry’s Electronics store, but they sell refurbished PS3s that have PS1/2 playback. Also you could try ordering one online.

Not to knock PlayStation 2 or Xbox 360, but I have a decent PC.  The consoles are okay for the kids, but I am happy with a keyboard and mouse.

 

I play online games to relax between work sessions on the computer.  I don’t want to get up from the machine to play.  Thankfully, there are games on demand made for my PC.

Hello there. My son received a gaming playstation 3 the other day, problem is he is getting money from somewhere but im not sure where considering his background. He tells me that he got the console for free, but i dont feel he is telling the truth. Can any one shine some light on this?

Maybe he won it. Try asking somebody to follow him somewhere. Ask his teachers about his background in school. Have been stealing, fighting, bullying. I can’t imagine how he got that. Ask him where did he get it from. And ask the person who gave it to him. I learnt about interrogation and is totally up to you to do it. This is a serious thing that he is getting the PS3 for free. Try asking question about how he got the ps3. If he sweats go deeper. You wouldn’t want your son ending up in jail. Find evidence of how he got it.
